AURORA | Relegated to the bench by foul trouble, senior John Harge could hardly contribute anything to the Smoky Hill boys basketball team Thursday night in its non-league visit to Rangeview.

Then came the fourth quarter, when the versatile 6-foot-8 forward did just about everything to push the Buffaloes to a gritty victory.

Harge opened the final period of a two-point game with a 3-pointer, followed that with free throws and an inside basket and the Buffaloes were off and running on a 26-point quarter that led to a hard-fought 69-57 victory over the Raiders.

Harge scored 15 in the final period on his way to 19, which tied sophomore teammate Quinten Rock for game-high honors for coach Anthony Hardin’s Smoky Hill team, which won its fourth straight game to get to 6-2 with a home game against Vista PEAK Friday sending it into winter break.

Senior Devin Collins scored 14 points and junior Jodaun Dotson added 11 for coach Shawn Palmer’s Rangeview team, which played its fourth consecutive game against a Centennial League opponent.

The Raiders — who got a big road win at Cherry Creek in their previous contest — dropped to 5-3 with a 3 p.m. Friday road game at Arapahoe before break.

Until the final period, the game resembled last season’s meeting between the two, a 71-62 Smoky Hill win in overtime.
