AURORA | Local hop heads can get a sip of some of the freshest hops imaginable this weekend at east Denver’s Comrade Brewing Co.
The brewery on East Iliff Avenue just a short drive west of the Aurora border is tapping its Fresh Hop Superpower IPA at noon on Friday.
These particular hops — close to 500 pounds in all — were picked off the vine at High Wire Hops in Paonia just a couple weeks ago, driven straight to Comrade and tossed into the brew just 12 hours later.
That sort of freshness is a perk of harvest season, Lanham said.
“It’s kind of a special thing this time of year,” he said.
Lanham said it’s hard to describe the difference fresh hops makes, but anyone familiar with Superpower IPA will likely notice a stronger, more plant-like aroma.
Veteran-owned and operated Launch Pad Brewing Co. in Aurora has special plans for the Sept. 11 anniversary on Friday.
In remembrance of the attack 14 years ago, the brewery will donate 10 percent of all Friday sales to the Wounded Warrior Project. They’ll also have Smokey Joe’s BBQ on hand selling food.
It’s Oktoberfest season and fans of Aurora’s Dry Dock Brewing Co. can celebrate with the brewery’s Docktoberfest Märzen this weekend. The brew will be officially released Friday and Saturday at the Lowry Beer Garden Oktoberfest. Dry Dock will be at the beer garden, 7577 E. Academy Blvd., from 5 to 9 p.m. both days with seven taps.
