DENVER  |  A police officer who was shot in the leg while responding to a report of a robbery at a convenience store near downtown Denver has been released from the hospital.

Police Chief Robert White says two officers on bicycle patrol were in the area when a person who saw the robbery called them over to the store along a busy section of Colfax Avenue near the state Capitol building on Wednesday night. One of the officers exchanged fire with the suspect, who White said is in “grave condition.”

Two other people who were not involved in the robbery suffered minor injuries during the confrontation, but White did not elaborate. He says the officer’s injury was “serious, but we believe he will have a full recovery.”

No other information was released.
