AURORA | Three people are in custody and one in the hospital after an Aurora shooting and police chase Wednesday, May 25, that ended in a northeast Denver cemetery.

The shooting happened around 12:45 p.m. at 1241 Akron St., said Aurora police spokeswoman Officer Diana Cooley.

Officers responded to the scene and found a male with a gunshot wound to his left chest, she said. The man was rushed to a hospital where he is being treated for life-threatening injuries.

Cooley said investigators spoke to witnesses who told them three Hispanic men fled the scene in a white Toyota RAV4.

The witnesses gave police a license plate number and, after checking the plate, police learned the vehicle was stolen, Cooley said.

When officers spotted the vehicle a short time later and it fled, a police lieutenant gave officers permission to chase the vehicle because it was stolen and connected to a shooting.

The chase ended in a cemetery in the 5400 block of Brighton Boulevard in Denver, Cooley said.

The three men in the RAV4 ran from the vehicle but were quickly arrested, she said.

The shooting happened a short distance from a fatal shooting Monday morning on Yosemite Street, but Cooley said the cases are unrelated.

“All these incidents are isolated,” she said.

Names of the wounded man and three suspects have not been released.
