AURORA | Police are asking the public for help with information about a 35-year-old woman found slain about 3 weeks ago in an East Colfax Avenue motel room.
Avis Pitts was found dead around 9 p.m. Dec. 19 in a room at the Pacesetter Motel, 14291 E. Colfax Ave., according to a statement from Aurora police.
Police have not said how Pitts died,but said detectives and investigators from the Major Crimes/Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Investigations Unit are investigating the case as a murder.
On Thursday police released a picture of Pitts and asked anyone with information about the case to call Detective Todd Fredericksen at 303-739-6106. Tipsters can also call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867 and may remain anonymous and be eligible for a reward of $2,000.
According to Pitts’ Facebook.com profile, she was from Memphis, Tenn.
She had no criminal history in Colorado, according to state records.
Her funeral is set for Jan. 4 in Denver.
