AURORA | Lyn Knoll Elementary School will have to wait for the Feb. 6 school board meeting to learn what changes if any will be made to the school’s governance structure.

The school since being made a “pilot” school in 2013, has seen inconsistent growth and persistent issues with performance and behavior issues. The Aurora Public School Board postponed making a decision on Jan. 23 after an almost five-hour meeting that saw an extended public comment in favor of letting the school continue as is.

The board is dealing with conflicting recommendations on how to proceed. Superintendent Rico Munn wants to move the school from the district’s pilot program into a turnround program managed by an external partner. But the district’s joint steering committee wants to see the school given one more year in the pilot program to make improvements.

The board decided to postpone any decisions until their next meeting to allow for more time to discuss the issue and for two board members who were not at the meeting, Dan Jorgensen and Debbie Gerkin, to weigh in on the issue.
