Quidnunc, whose name comes from the Latin “what now,” is out and about as often as possible to bring you news overheard in elevators, rest rooms and spied in various e-mail boxes.
QUID HAS HEARD that nervous doesn’t begin to describe the gaggle of gregarious gun types gathering in Adams County last week to train teachers to open fire on students who open fire at school. Seems that the controversial Colorado Springs based group, FASTER — which promotes arming teachers to scare away or blow away students and others who want to shoot up their schools — brought their show to town for local fishwrappers and tee-vee types. Sentinel hacks Grant Stringer and Philip Poston agreed to make the day trip past Brighton last week and watch teachers learn when and how to take down a bad kid. Fearing fearsome bad press, even after inviting it in, Sentinel hacks were peppered with questions about how fun they thought guns were, and more importantly, whether they were at the show to pump out what the brethren of hacks are often accused of deploying: “ax jobs.” The concern, however, prompted the odd question of whether the Sentinel was there to do a “hit job,” which your faithful affiant credits to their affinity to all things guns. Yours truly has seen Stringer’s humble report and can assure everyone there were no casualties.
AND QUID HAS HEARD that Councilman Dave Gruber was immersed in Emerge re-education this week after a recent gaseous gaffe about the group earlier. Seems that Gruber was grousing about Emerge Colorado and the new class of city council candidates clamoring for the same success that Emerge alums have had here and across Colorado. Councilwomen Alison Hiltz, Nicole Johnston and Crystal Murillo went from Emerge to the council bench two years ago. Gruber sniped from the dais last week that all Club Emerge members must honor a statewide pillar of hating on oil and gas. He was admonished that night and in full this week when state officials Emerged during the city council meeting to inform Gruber that Emergents only have to commit to being a woman and a Dem. It’s a girl thing, not an oil thing.
AND THAT’S ALL THE NEWS THAT FITS
