AURORA | A recent survey commissioned by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, which is backing Jason Crow in the race to unseat Congressman Mike Coffman in CD6, says Democrats will have to be willing to work with the Trump Administration if they want to be considered successful.

Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research says in its report that, “Candidates should feel comfortable taking on Trump to protect the district, but must express a willingness to work with the President when his agenda might help the district. Doing so gives a Democrat credibility to stand up to Trump on other issues.”

The survey was taken in 52 swing districts across the country, according to a memo provided to the DCCC.

A statement from the Crow campaign said the 6th Congressional District is at the center of several issues often discussed in Washington, such as gun violence, immigration and infrastructure, and so, yes, working with Republicans is a possibility.

“If the Republicans and Donald Trump want to get serious about any of those issues, I will work with those who want to solve problems for our community and country,” Crow said in a statement. “However, if they continue down the path they’re going, I will do everything I can to stand up to them and stop their destructive policies. It’s time that our representatives put those of us here at home ahead of Washington special interests. We need a new generation of leadership to stop playing politics, and get to work.”

Crow’s campaign often points out Coffman’s so-called allegiance to the Trump administration because the Representative votes along with the administration more than 95 percent of the time.

Since Trump’s election Coffman said he would hold the president accountable just as he would with a Democrat in office. Notably, Coffman has opposed the president’s actions on DACA  and urged him to fire now former VA Secretary David Shulkin.
