AURORA | One man died in Aurora early this morning after crashing his car into the center median on East Mississippi Avenue, according to Aurora police.
Police believe both speed and alcohol contributed to the crash.
Investigators responded at about 2:15 a.m. Friday morning to the area near East Mississippi Avenue and Troy Street on reports of a single-vehicle crash, according to the Aurora Police Department blog.
Officers determined a man driving a Nissan Maxima was driving west on East Mississippi Avenue when he lost control of his car and crashed into “the planter box” in the median dividing the two sides of the road.
The impact caused the Maxima to roll “several times” before stopping on the opposite side of the road, according to police.
The man was not wearing his seatbelt and was partially ejected in the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Arapahoe County Coroner will identify the man following the notification of family members.
The crash on Friday morning marks the fourth fatal accident in Aurora so far this year, police said. At least three other people were killed in traffic-related incidents in the city last week.
Anyone who may have witnessed this crash is encouraged to call Officer Justin Thull at 303-739-6381.
